Their search for a keep did indeed see them into the night, though sunset did bring something rather unexpected: a Sangheili huntress. She had managed to take them by surprise just as Qikost and Suban appeared overhead, greeting them with an arrow aimed directly at Vino’s hearts as they rounded a sharp bend in the path. Luckily, the path had widened, allowing Maxsa adequate room to stamp her clawed feet in irritation. Vino had known right away that he was facing a female – or at least a very small, less dominant male. She had stopped short of loosing her arrow, but she hadn’t lowered her bow.

Mahzra was starting to buy into the Pale Blade’s lies. But worse than that, Ashurah was starting to believe them too. It had been easy to ignore him at first. Now, it was just getting harder and harder.
“Your mother is dead. I killed her myself. And your cousin, the Jumper – he abandoned you. He looked you in the eye and then turned his back on you.”
“You gave him no choice!” Ashurah always did his best to bite his tongue, but it never seemed to work. He had the same quick temper his mother had been known for in her youth. Besides, he couldn’t stand to watch Mahzra wilt under the

Z'Ket didn’t say anything more. There wasn’t anything he needed or even wanted to say to his cousin Rahk. Their relationship had become strained over the past two years since Rahk had been named Kaidon. Z'Ket had understood the decision and accepted it. She had eventually stopped trembling, and with a single, shaking breath, she had managed to quell her tears. She just knelt there, head to the deck, eyes closed, jaws moving without words.
Ashurah had managed to bring his own tears under control, though not before a throbbing in his head took hold. His chest still ached, and his eyes stung and felt scratchy. He felt heavy, tired. Hey y'all! I'm Skylar. I've been writing for several years. My favorite things are Halo and Star Wars. I've played all the Halo games and I have all the books as well as some of the graphic novels. I am currently working on the third book in a Halo trilogy that I've been working on for about three or so years. I'm an Aerospace Engineering major at UTK, as well as a member of the Band Program, so my course work load is kinda crazy. I currently don't have a set schedule, so please be patient if it's been a while since my last post; I will post chapters as I finish them. If anyone's interested in doing some artwork for the books, please message me. I'm artistically challenged, but it would be awesome to see what someone else can do. Feel free to comment, message, etc. Let me know what y'all think. Thanks for reading!
In case anyone was wondering...
No, I have not disappeared, and yes, I am still working on Stains of War.
I know it's been over 2 months since my last post, but my classes are ridiculously difficult. I've had to give my full attention to my schoolwork just to try to keep passing grades. On top of that, a sprinkler pipe in my residence hall was damaged due to vandalism last weekend, and my dorm room flooded, so I'm currently still living out of a small suitcase in a hotel near campus. Not exactly how you want to start finals week. I have two more finals this week (my two worst classes), then I'll have a break until January. I'm looking forwa
Apologies for the long absence; school is crazy and classes are hard. Hopefully Chapter 19 was worth the wait. I have a long weekend for Fall Break this week so the plan is to get a couple of chapters together and ready to go for the next couple of w...
